Wondering how to wash your hair and avoid hair fall? I got you.

In this post I’ll share with you 7 easy tips on how to wash your hair to prevent hair loss.

But first, a few things you need to know.

Losing hair during a scrub is normal

After dealing myself with this issue, I made some research and found out that:

  • Hair falling out in the shower is normal. According to a 2018 study, the average person sheds about 100 hairs a day—when hair growth is in normal balance.

Also, I’ve made some changes to my hair wash routine. Fortunately, I was able to reduce the amount of hair I was losing.

Note that If you’re worried about the amount of hair you’re shedding, talk to your doctor. He/She will give you a proper diagnose and treatment.

That said, here’s how to wash your hair correctly and stop hair fall.

How to Wash Your Hair to Avoid Hair Fall

1. Change your shampoo

Easier said than done when the options are endless, I know. But using the right shampoo can prevent hair loss.

In my case, when I switched to sulfate-free shampoos, my hair stopped falling—I now use the Kirkland brand from Costco.

2. Wash with Lukewarm Water⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There’s nothing nicer than a hot shower after a hard day. But it’ll dry your scalp, making your hair fall.

That said, wash it with lukewarm water and rinse it with cool water.

3. Gently massage your scalp

Promote blood circulation and hair growth by gently massaging your scalp for 2 to 3 minutes. Plus, make sure not to scratch it.

4. Wash it every other day

Over-washing your hair removes its natural oils leaving it dry and brittle.

Instead, wash it every other day or every 2 to 3 days.

5. Use Conditioner Sporadically

Conditioner helps re-hydrate your hair, making it softer and tangle-free. And brands recommend to use it everyday.

But if you have fine hair, conditioner will weigh it down.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So, use conditioner a few times per week and apply it just to the tips, never on the scalp.

6. Let your hair dry naturally

Don’t brush it when it’s wet, it’ll be more prone to fall out. Instead, let it dry naturally whenever possible.

But if you need to use the dryer, choose the coolest setting and blow dry at 6-in away from your hair.

7. Never wear ponytails when your hair is wet

Regularly wearing ponytails, braids or other tied up hairstyles may lead to a form of hair loss: traction alopecia. And doing them when your hair is wet, will worsen the problem.

If you need to wear a ponytail, do it when your hair is dry and don’t pull it too tight.

let’s recap
